WHAT IT ISWhere the Top 25 ranks each event, Power 25 ranks the athletes: the 25 best track athletes and the 25 best field athletes in each age group, for boys and girls.
HOW IT'S RANKEDEach athlete is placed on their highest national ranking in any event. National #1s come first, then #2s, and so on. One athlete, one place per list.
LEADWhen athletes share the same national rank, the one furthest ahead of the rest of their event is placed higher. Lead is measured the same way for every event, so sprints, jumps and throws are compared fairly.
TRACK AND FIELDTrack includes sprints, distance, hurdles, steeplechase and walks. Field includes jumps and throws. An athlete strong in both can appear on both lists.
WHAT COUNTSEvery event counts when at least 10 athletes are ranked in it, so a #1 in a small event does not outrank a #2 in a deep one.
NZ'S BESTEach list names NZ's best athlete in that age group, such as NZ's best U16 girls track athlete.
