Why we exist
WHERE YOU STAND IN NZResults are spread across many regions, clubs and meets. NZ STAR brings them into one national ranking for every event and age group, so every Year 9–13 athlete can see how they compare with athletes across the country.
WHERE YOU STAND GLOBALLYEvery list shows an international (US) benchmark for the matching school grade, so athletes and families can see how New Zealand marks compare with leading high school athletes overseas.
SEEN BY US COLLEGESUS college coaches recruit from rankings like these. NZ STAR gives them an up-to-date view of New Zealand’s talented athletes, with each athlete’s marks, school and US grade equivalent in one place.
How the rankings work
THE RULESOne athlete, one mark: their best of the season. 2026 calendar year only. Wind-aided marks (over +2.0) are not counted. Age group by age at 31 December, as NZSSAA does. Secondary school athletes only, with a confirmed school.
WHERE MARKS COME FROMPublished results only. School: school and championship meets. Club: club and open meets. Overseas: verified results abroad.
INT’L (US) BENCHMARKThe average of a leading US state’s top 10 for the matching grade, with the range from best to 10th. Year 9 = Grade 8 · Year 10 = Grade 9 · Year 11 = Grade 10 · Years 12–13 = Grades 11–12 by age.
Editions
RELEASED IN EDITIONSRankings are published in editions through the season, starting before the NZSSAA Championships. Each edition is kept as a fixed snapshot in the Archive, with movement (▲▼) from one edition to the next.
WEB AND PDFEvery edition is on the web, where you can filter from Top 5 to Top 100, and as a downloadable PDF.
Accuracy and privacy
CORRECTIONSWe check every mark, but mistakes happen. If something is wrong or missing, families and coaches can
submit a mark with a link to the published result.
YOUR INFORMATIONWe only show what is already in published results: name, school, age group and marks. No photos are shown. Families can ask for an athlete’s profile to be removed at any time.
INDEPENDENTNZ STAR is independent. It uses published results and is not run by NZSSAA or Athletics New Zealand.
